Get Organised for the New Semester

We know that starting a new semester can be overwhelming, so we put together a list of tips and tricks that can help teachers to plan and prepare. Afterall, preparation is the key to success!

1.     Get a planner

A planner will make your life so much easier. As a teacher, we know that you have a lot of tasks to keep track of. A planner will help you to remember tasks and plan your day. You can even download an app if you prefer that to a traditional planner.

2.     Unclutter your space

As semesters fly by, your work area tends to become cluttered and disorganised. Take a few minutes to reorganise your work area and you’ll see how daily tasks become much more manageable. Get rid of old papers, obtain new stationery and set everything in its place to start the new semester with a boom.

3.     Colour coordinate

By colour coordinating and clearly labelling books, folders and binders, your classroom will stay neat throughout the year and students will easily locate their work. For example, grammar resources can be blue, games and activities can be yellow and listening exercises red. You can also categorise according to age group.

4.     Invest in some classroom organisational supplies

Make sure everything in your classroom has a home and specific space. You can use plastic drawers to house lesson plan materials, shoe boxes for student materials and crates to store items that are not used frequently. This is a great investment which you can re-use any way you like.

5.     Get a wall calendar

This is perfect for your own planning and for displaying important assignment, test and project dates for your students. It will even help you to remember the birthdays of your students! It also gives your classroom that unique finishing touch.

6.     Reflect

During the semester teachers are so occupied and busy that they forget to reflect on their lessons and interactions with students. Take some time before the new semester to reflect on what worked in the past year and what you can improve. This will assist you to refine your teaching techniques and better interactions with students.

At the end of the day, organisation is a journey and not a destination. Try to implement these tips in you daily routine as well as before the new semester. We hope this is your most organised semester yet!
