At Totally China, we love new words to add to our vocabulary! Here are some of our favourites that we love.


Lackadaisical

Being lazy or unenthusiastic. An adjective NOT to use to describe yourself in your job interview!

‘I feel like being Lackadaisical today’

 

Batrachomyomachy

A petty quarrel or pointless argument – we all know that one person who loves them!

‘Why are you bringing up last Tuesday, this is such a Batrachomyomachy’


Discombobulate

To confuse / to be confused.

‘You just made me so Discombobulated’


Ptomatis

An irregularly shaped cup meaning it must be emptied before it’s put down, otherwise it will spill. Is this a word do you think you’ll ever need?

‘You’ll need to down your drink, it’s in a Ptomatis’


Kerfuffle

To create a fuss or a bother resulting in lots of noise.

‘Why are you making such a Kerfuffle’


Quidnunc

A person who seeks to know all the latest news or gossip. Anyone work with one of these people?!

‘Wow Emily is such a Quidnunc’

 

Ragamuffin

Someone who normally wears dirty or scruffy clothes, or looks a bit messy. A creative word to insult your friends with!

 ‘I bet you Emily looks like a ragamuffin this weekend’

 

Psithurism

The sound of wind in the trees and leaves. How romantic.

 ‘The Psithurism is lovely here’


Candor

A deeply genuine, honest nature.

 ‘I love Jeff because of his Candor’


Eccedentesiast

Someone who fakes a smile. Surely a classic defence mechanism we all need once in a while?!

 ‘Adam is such an Eccedentesiast in photos’
