2. Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines)

Once run by Jesuit priests, the University of Ateneo was converted into a military camp at the time of the Japanese occupation during the Second World War, so this university has been no stranger to the series of horror stories that are passed on from generation to generation. From the eerie Old Communications building, to the historic hallways of the Ateneo Grade School, there are countless ghost sightings and paranormal hauntings.

Reports of unnatural phenomena include nocturnal sightings of mythical creatures resting by the mango tree at the school oval, and mysterious apparitions of Japanese soldiers smoking rolled-up cigarettes in the Cervini Dormitory.

3. University of Toronto (Canada)

The Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets in real life! While the University of Toronto is widely known for its strong academic reputation, it's also listed as one of the most haunted universities in the world. Christie Mansion, a building on the campus, was the site of an illicit love affair and untimely death, in the 1870s.

The mansion's owner back then, Robert Christie, was a rich businessman who kept his mistress hidden in a secret chamber behind his library, known today as the infamous room Number 29. As the story goes, after much despair, Christie's mistress hung herself from the rafters. Being the subject of many books and writings, including John Robert Colombo's ghost map of the Canadian city titled Haunted Toronto, Christie’s story has become quite well known.

4. University of Alabama (USA)

The University of Alabama is a school full of spirit and spirits! The campus became a military academy in 1860, that specialised in training Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War. Most of the campus was destroyed during the Civil War, but almost all the buildings that remain from that time contain haunting reminders, literally.

Alleged ghosts of the University of Alabama include Josiah Gorgas, the former President of the University, the Confederate General who still walks the stairs of the building, clanging his sword against the wall as he goes, and Amelia Gorgas, Josiah Gorgas’s wife who was the librarian in the late 1800s. If those three ghosts weren’t enough to send shivers down your spine, it is said if you put your ear to the door of the little round house building you can hear the voices of soldiers, still in search of a drink.

There is a booming activity for ghosts at the University of Nagasaki, after the atomic bomb tragedy in 1945, that claimed the lives of more than 800 students, professors, and medical staff. Although the medical school was only built in 1949, it existed as early as 1857.

Nearly 70 years after the atomic bomb hit Nagasaki, hair-raising paranormal experiences are still encountered to this day. Students and visitors have reported screams, cries, and the smell of burning flesh that linger in the hallways.
