The World’s Most Affordable Higher-Education
Have you ever wondered how much it would cost to live and study in another country?
The high prices of some Western education systems are not necessarily seen across the rest of the world. Surprisingly, European countries top the list of affordable higher education as most provide entirely free education for local, EU, and EEA citizens.
We have collated information to bring you a list of the 5 most affordable countries to study in! Take a look at the list below:
GERMANY
First up... Germany! Tuition fees were abolished at public universities in Germany in 2014, meaning international students can expect to pay no tuition fees for their undergraduate studies. This central European country is not only budget friendly, but traveler friendly too. Just a stone’s throw away from the rest of Europe, with plenty of transport links for weekend getaways.
Expect to pay around $700 - $1100 on housing each month.
NORWAY
Next, Norway! Up until 2023, this breathtakingly beautiful country offered free education for all international students. However, starting this year Norway has begun charging small tuition fees for students from outside EU and EEA countries. Fear not! Keeping living costs down isn’t a problem in Norway thanks to their “study visa”, which allows international students to work part time alongside their studies.
Housing will set you back just 300$ - $500 per month too!
ICELAND
Another surprising addition to the list is the gorgeous country of Iceland. With its stunning landscapes and vivid student culture, it’s no wonder why many young people choose Iceland for their higher education. Tuition is completely free for all international students at public universities in Iceland, with only a small application fee.
Keep in mind that housing in Iceland can bump up the cost of living. Expect to pay between $600 - $1400 per month depending on location.
TAIWAN
Public universities in Taiwan start at around $700 per academic year for both undergraduate and master’s degrees, depending on your college and major. Alongside your studies, you will have the opportunity to learn Mandarin, one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, giving you an edge in an increasingly competitive labour market when you graduate.
Housing is cheap, averaging just $80 - $400 per month, depending on your preference of student halls, rented apartments, or host family living.
FRANCE
When doing this critical-thinking activity, you can give students an everyday object that already has a defined purpose, like a pencil or a mug. You can then ask your students to transform this object into something that has an entirely different use. Critical thinking plays an important role when exercising this activity since students can invent something new out of a pre-existing object.
So, there you have it! Some of the most affordable places to study in the world. Did any of these countries surprise you?
