Christmas decorations

With Christmas creeping around the corner the most exciting thing to do is the décor. It just gives it that special Christmas spirit feeling! As Andy Williams said in his song “it is the most wonderful time of the year”, and it certainly is. Most teachers like to decorate their classrooms with fun Christmas decor to celebrate.

Here are some decoration ideas to help transform your classroom into a Christmas wonderland.

Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer

Of course, everybody’s favourite reindeer needs to be included during Christmas time. This is a fun and easy task to do with your students. Trace their feet on brown paper to create the reindeer’s face and trace their hands to create the antlers. Add google eyes and a red pompom for the nose. Use the cute cut outs to decorate windows or a bulletin board. It is most certainly a creative way to give your classroom that unique look!

Candy striped North Pole

As we all know, Santa lives in the North Pole. Add his address to your classroom globe to excite and intrigue your students (young learners will especially enjoy this). Use a red and white striped candy cane and add a paper card that says, “North Pole”. Stick it to the globe with clay and voila! Santa’s address is now reflected on the globe. This may even motivate your students to stay off the Naughty List!

Tissue paper pompoms

Even if it doesn’t snow in your country, you could always indulge in a “white Christmas”. Although these aren’t your average snowballs, they’ll surely do the trick! Make tissue paper pompoms in various shapes and sizes so that they resemble snowballs. Then go ahead and glue straws on them horizontally. The last step is to attach your pompoms to the ceiling with string. Your classroom just turned into a white Christmas wonderland.

A bookworm Christmas tree

Christmas is just not the same without a Christmas tree. No need to buy one when you have lots of books at your fingertips. Most classrooms are filled with an abundance of reading material. Rearrange your books until they are in the shape of a Christmas tree. You can stay true to the Christmas theme by only including books with red, green and white covers.

Twinkle lights

Add some spark and magic to your classroom by using twinkle or fairy lights around your windowpanes. Twinkle lights add sparkle to your classroom and will lighten up your students’ day. You can keep it classic with white lights or be adventurous and opt for colourful ones.

Paper ornaments

An affordable way to decorate your classroom doorway is to use paper ornaments. First draw a circle, then cut it out and decorate it. You can basically do anything with paper, colour it, cut it, paste it, whatever you prefer. Include your students by letting each of them decorate their own paper ornament. You’ll definitely get a few unique Christmas decorations!

Branched out writing prompts

In winter, you can find bare branches laying around in your yard or in a park. So go ahead and use the opportunity to make little decorative trees. Simply paint the branches white and put the bases into buckets of sand to keep them upright. You can use these trees to Christmas wishes, letters to Santa or Christmas pictures that can be used as writing prompts for your students.

If you have traditional Christmas decorations, do not forget about them. Each item can have a special place in your classroom. Remember to make your students part of the decorating process. After all, the more the merrier!
