Top Teaching Hacks

Organise your classroom, solve challenging storage problems and save time with these great teaching hacks!

Lesson plan hack

If you’re still using the old pen and paper to create lesson plans, it might be a good idea to opt for a digital template. There are loads of printable lesson plans available to download for a wide range of age groups. Save time by using these fillable templates, example lesson plans and planning calendars ready for your customisation.

Bulletin board hack

Inexpensive black bed sheets or even landscape fabric works well to cover up bulletin boards for a longer lifespan. They don’t fade and you won’t have to change them time and again!

Classroom organisation hack

A cheap alternative for organising file folders is a dish-drying rack. The cup part that usually holds the utensils also works well for pens, markers, pencils etc.

Whiteboard hack

White disposable plastic plates – they make a good replacement for standard whiteboards and won’t be as expensive.

Storage hack

Milk or file crates are great storage solutions. You’ll only need a few zip ties (cable ties) to secure the crates together. You can also add spray paint to the list, if you’d like your storage shelves to have a more refreshing colour.

QR code poster hack

Parents are always going to be involved when it comes to their children’s education. Why not create a QR poster that can be placed outside your classroom, so anyone can easily scan and access most of your classroom info online? This will save yourself and parents a lot of time, but you’ll still need to make yourself available for parents for more serious questions.

Frozen sponge hack

It comes in handy when your students get bumps or bruises on the playground. Just put a sponge in a sandwich bag and freeze.

Crayon storage hack

Use colourful bins that match the colour of your crayons! It helps to keep your class neat and organised, while making it easier for your students to access their preferred colours with ease.

Makeup remover pads hack

Teachers claim that makeup remover pads are some of the most effective dry erase board erasers. They’re cheap, reusable and washable!

Painting hack

When dealing with art projects, put plastic bags inside your young learners’ paint cups for an easy clean up afterwards. You can also use plastic lids and bottle caps that can be thrown out once you’re done with the project.

Did you know you can also make your own watercolour paint with markers? Double paint hack!

We hope some of these ideas can be implemented in your class and that they’ll make your life much easier as a teacher.
