New Campus = New Opportunities
Occasionally, schools will expand by opening up a new campus. This is an exciting move for the school as they grow, accommodate new students and further their educational efforts. However, some teachers can be wary about working at a brand new campus. Is it legit? Is it established? Will I have to take on extra duties?
If you do your research on the school and the current campuses look impressive, it may be worth taking the leap!
The following reasons explain why a position at a new campus could be a positive and enriching career move!
1. The school may already have a good reputation
If you’ve researched the school and their current campuses already have an excellent reputation, this means the school knows what it’s doing. and they’re not going to compromise and lower the standards on what they’ve built. If they’ve built a good school more than once they have the framework to easily do it again, also having improved and streamlined the process.
This also means the school definitely has its license – so there should be no problem with questionable visas, contracts, etc.
2. You’ll be a founding teacher
This is a fantastic place to be in! You’ll be awarded with first chance on the opportunities, and always be remembered for being the first in. You can set the standards and there will always be a level of respect for taking a risk on a brand new campus.
If you have a particular interest or passion, you may able to launch your own extra-curricular activities as a new campus will have the ability to be more adaptable.
3. Unlock additional opportunities
Due to the quantity of staff required for a new campus, they may lower the qualification requirements and consider more candidates to fill the spots more efficiently. Your enthusiasm and personality could go along way here, and you may potentially secure yourself an excellent position you normally wouldn’t have been considered for.
4. You’ll probably be working with a great team
Because you would be hired as a team, the school may have considered you collectively when hiring and potentially found several different teachers who are on the same wavelength. This could make for potential friends or at the very least a fantastic bunch of work colleagues, which can make the working days more fulfilling.
5. Grow with the school
As the school evolves and expands, so will you! As a founding teacher, many opportunities will arise to move within the school and to positions (e.g. leadership positions / subject positions) that you may not have normally been considered for. This gives you the opportunity to explore what you love to do and gain experience within that field – perfect for when you decide to move on.
We hope this helps, and you’ll consider a new campus in the future!
