To teach in China, you need a teaching qualification. There are various you can obtain, some easier than another!

  • TEFL/TESOL/CELTA/DELTA

  • PGCE / PGCEi

  • Teaching License / QTS / SACE

TEFL/TESOL

A TEFL is the “Teach English as a Foreign language” qualification. This may also be known as a TESOL.

A 120 hour online TEFL/TESOL course is the minimum requirement for teaching English in China, along with a degree (in anything). When researching into what TEFL to complete, ensure that the qualification is recognised in China and can be authenticated in your country!

PGCE / PGCEi

A PGCE is a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. This is a recognised qualification and will get you a position in some international schools.

Teaching License / QTS / SACE

The teaching license / QTS or SACE means you can legally work as a professional teacher in your own country. This means you will have your pick of positions abroad! Particularly if you have the relevant experience, you can apply to any subject or homeroom positions within the best international schools.
